FAQs:

What paddle is this most similar to from SLK or Selkirk?

There isn’t a direct comparison within the current SLK or Selkirk lineups. The ERA Power features a new Dynamic Fusion Core — a hybrid construction of polypropylene surrounded by EVA foam. This delivers a completely new performance and feel compared to our previous all-polypropylene or all-foam designs.

If we had to identify the closest comparisons:

  • From SLK: The HALO Power comes closest, but the ERA Power delivers significantly more power, a larger sweet spot, and increased dwell time, which enhances control and spin.
  • From Selkirk: The VANGUARD Pro is the most similar, but again, the ERA Power offers greater power, a larger sweet spot, and more dwell time for improved spin and control. Note: the VANGUARD Pro is a hybrid paddle.

How does this paddle compare to other power paddles Selkirk has released?

  • Power Air: The ERA Power has a thicker core, more powerful performance, larger sweet spot, and significantly more dwell time for improved control and spin. It also introduces new shape options (elongated and widebody).
  • HALO Power: Compared to the Halo Power, the ERA Power features a thicker core, more power, increased dwell time, larger sweet spot, and updated paddle shapes.
  • Selkirk LABS Project 007 14mm: The ERA Power offers a thicker core, new shapes, more power, larger sweet spot, and much more dwell time than the Project 007.

How should this product be cleaned?

For best results, clean the paddle surface with a microfiber cloth and either alcohol or a mild detergent. A raw carbon cleaning block may also be used, if preferred.

Should I weight this paddle?

The ERA Power includes internal edge reinforcements that add weight to the sides and top of the frame. This improves both:

  • Twist weight: for enhanced stability and a larger sweet spot.
  • Swing weight: for greater power and plow-through.

Because of this, most players will find the paddle feels balanced and powerful right out of the box, with no need for additional weight. However, players who want to fine-tune performance can consider:

  • More power: Add lead tape to the top edge of the paddle (note: this may reduce maneuverability).
  • Larger sweet spot with added power: Apply lead tape to the sides near the throat (just above the curve).

How do the new Elongated and Widebody shapes compare to previous Selkirk and SLK shapes? Why were the shapes updated?

Why we updated the shapes:

We designed the new shapes to better align with the needs of today’s pickleball players—enhancing performance while preserving what players have long loved about our classic Invikta and Epic (Max and XL) shapes. Our goal was to modernize the look and feel of our paddles without compromising balance, control, or versatility.

How they compare:

  • Elongated shape: Compared to the Invikta and XL, the new Elongated shape delivers a more modern profile and improved performance around the edges for enhanced consistency. It features a longer handle, making it ideal for two-handed backhands and added reach—while maintaining control and overall paddle balance.
  • Widebody shape: Compared to the Epic and Max shapes, the new Widebody shape offers a wider face for increased stability and a larger, more forgiving sweet spot. It also includes a longer handle to support two-handed play and extended reach, all within a design that balances modern aesthetics with reliable performance.

What gives this paddle a larger sweet spot?

The ERA Power includes internal edge reinforcements that add weight to the paddle’s sides, increasing its twist weight and enhancing stability. This helps reduce twisting on off-center hits, making the paddle more forgiving and consistent across the face.

The Dynamic Fusion Core — polypropylene surrounded by EVA foam — also contributes to a more flexible and responsive feel. This combination increases dwell time and creates a powerful, controlled interaction with the ball, helping expand the effective sweet spot compared to traditional, stiffer core constructions.
