With its picturesque 'Selkirk Red' mountain terrains, St. George, Utah, will transform into a pickleball paradise when the historic Selkirk Red Rock Open begins on Wednesday, April 24th.
Selkirk is proud to serve as the title sponsor of the Red Rock Open for three consecutive years, and this year is especially meaningful: it marks Selkirk’s tenth anniversary. Despite some big names being absent from the tournament draw, the Selkirk Red Rock Open is sure to bring excitement and potentially some new champions to the podium on Sunday.
James Ignatowich looks to defend mixed doubles title
You can always expect a show when James Ignatowich is on the court with his incredible athleticism and fun personality. Just earlier this year, Ignatowich landed SportsCenter’s #1 shot of the day, a first for the sport of pickleball and a true testament to Ignatowich’s dynamic style of play.
While Ignatowich had been struggling with a shoulder injury for the past few months, he will be reunited with Anna Bright for their mixed doubles title defense in St. George. The pair has had immense success since partnering in 2023 and should have a good chance at gold without the Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters duo competing together. Ignatowich/Bright may face a new Selkirk duo of Maggie Brascia and Collin Shick in the Round of 16.
Mary and Maggie Brascia are in it to win it
Fan favorites and sisters Mary and Maggie Brascia will pair up for women’s doubles as the No. 5 seeds. The duo recently transitioned to the newest raw carbon paddle line, Vanguard Control, for doubles and earned a fourth-place finish after defeating some formidable opponents last week at the LA Open, including the Walker sisters and Brooke Buckner & Lina Padegimaite. The Brascias will play against Riley Bohnert and rising MLP Australia talent Emilia Schmidt in the first round in St. George.
Jack Sock gets better and better
Jack Sock continues to prove his place on the tour. Since the start of the year, he has had an impressive showing at tournaments—particularly in singles—with several top-10 victories under his belt. Sock may be tested early in the tournament with a potential clash against rising star Quang Duong.
In doubles, Sock will play with friend, Collin Shick, and test a new mixed doubles partnership with Allyce Jones. With Sock bringing his unique and powerful style of play with Jones’ incredible defense and grit, the duo has the potential to make a deep run in this tournament.
