Sock & Parenteau battle back to make mixed doubles QF

The PPA Atlanta Open round of 16 draws got underway today. This week is a progesssion draw so fans were treated to all five disciplines, starting with singles and ending with gender doubles. Let’s take a look at who was able to advance.

Men’s Singles: Quang Duong Impressive Win over JW Johnson

Quang Duong put together an impressive showing vs the #6 seed JW Johnson defeating him in two games 11-6, 11,6. Duong won the first seven points of the match and was in control the rest of the way. Christian Alshon also advanced over Jack Sock in two hard fought games. Pablo Tellez will play his former men’s doubles partner Federico Staksrud in the QF finals tomorrow as well.

Women’s Singles: Todd Erases Early Deficit to Defeat Parenteau

Parris Todd got down early to Catherine Parenteau and had to take a medical timeout after a slight ankle injury but she persevered to get the win in three games. Mary Brascia also advanced, winning the final 11 points in her bout with Jorja Johnson.

Mixed Doubles: Sock & Parenteau Come from Behind

Jack Sock caught fire today on center court as his forehand put Dekel Bar and Tina Pisnik under immense pressure for most of games 2 and 3 as he and Catherine Parenteau advanced to tomorrow’s quarterfinal against Ben Johns and Anna Leigh Waters.

Men’s Doubles: James Ignatowich & Tellez Cruise to Win

James Ignatowich and Pablo Tellez are a new partnership debuting this week and it’s been smooth sailing so far as they have dropped only 9 points in two matches. They’ll face Dekel Bar and Tyson McGuffin in the quarterfinals with a potential semifinal versus Dylan Frazier and JW Johnson looming.

Women’s Doubles: Top Two Seeds in Top Form

Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau didn’t lose a point today while Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher won their round of 16 match 11-2, 11-1. These two teams look to be on a collision course once again as they have separated themselves from the rest of the pack.
