Using Your Serve as a Weapon: A SelkirkTV Instructional Video Breakdown

Are you looking to set up easier third shots and maybe even score more points with your serve? In this YouTube video, professional pickleball player Porter Barr offers valuable tips on serving in pickleball and emphasizes the importance of using the serve as a weapon.

Barr explains that a hard serve can keep opponents at the baseline, set up easier third shots, and even score points. The key is to master a serve that lands deep on the court, close to the baseline.

Barr demonstrates a simple drill to improve the serve: placing two cones on the opposing serving square about 2 to 3 feet from the baseline and hitting five balls to each cone. He advises not to focus on the pace initially but on getting the serve to land accurately. As you become more comfortable, you can start to add pace to the serve. Practicing like this helps to simulate game conditions and improve performance.

The goal is to get the serve as close to the opponent's baseline as possible, ideally 2 to 3 feet from the line. This will keep your opponents on their toes and might even win you a few points. By mastering this serving technique, players can gain a competitive edge and elevate their pickleball game.
