Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall, Susannah Barr to headline APP Kuala Lumpur Open

Selkirk is expanding its presence in Asia with its first major tournament sponsorship in Malaysia, partnering with the APP for the Kuala Lumpur Open. The tournament, scheduled for Feb. 9-14 at Playa Racquet Club, marks the APP’s first event in Malaysia and will feature top players from around the world, including Selkirk athletes Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall and Susannah Barr.

Wang-Beckvall seeks second title in Kuala Lumpur

Xiao Yi Wang-Beckvall has extensive experience on the international stage. While she has competed in events in the United States, much of her recent success has come on the PPA Asia Tour. The Hawaiʻi native has won multiple international women’s doubles medals, including gold at PPA Malaysia and silver at PPA Hong Kong and PPA Vietnam in 2025.

Wang-Beckvall will compete with Nicole Schoeman as the No. 6 seed in women’s doubles and with Max Manthou as the No. 5 seed in mixed doubles.

“I’m excited to play the APP Tour’s first international stop,” Wang-Beckvall said. “I love Malaysia and am really looking forward to being back and competing in Kuala Lumpur.”

Barr to debut in Asia

APP Tour veteran Susannah Barr is competing in Malaysia for the first time. Barr won 12 professional medals in 2025, including gold at the APP Sacramento event.

She will team with Andre Millet as the No. 4 seed in mixed doubles. In women’s doubles, Barr will partner with Yu-Chieh Hsieh, Asia’s No. 7-ranked doubles player, earning the No. 4 seed.
