Tellez makes his mark in men’s doubles quarterfinal

It was an interesting day in Austin, Texas as rain delays forced the action to be pushed to two different offsite locations. Most of the gender doubles quarterfinal matches will continue tomorrow and we’ll see if the PPA pushes the finals to Monday but there is still plenty to talk about from today’s action so let’s get into it.

Pablo Tellez Electric in Men’s QF Match

Pablo Tellez and partner Federico Staksrud finished their day defeating Connor Garnett and Pat Smith in two tight games. The difference: Pablo Tellez. His counter attacking off the backhand wing was electric and his ability to cover the middle to shut down the offense of Garnett propelled his team to finish line. Tellez is the engine that makes this team go as his firepower from the right can give the game’s elite left siders issues when he is on. He’ll face Christian Alshon and Zane Navratil in the semifinals as they defeated Ben and Collin Johns in the other quarterfinal match on the top half of the draw.

Women’s Doubles to Set the Stage Saturday

Most of the women’s doubles matches didn’t get completed today so the women will surely go off first in the morning. Several Selkirk pros are still vying for finals spots including Parris Todd, Jackie/Jade Kawamoto, Catherine Parneteau & Judit Castillo
