Rohrabacher vs Parenteau for a spot on Sunday

The PPA Las Vegas Cup quarterfinals got underway today at the Fontainebleau. The later rounds of these PPA draws continue to get more competitive which makes for high quality matches each and every tournament. Let’s see who was able to advance to the semifinals.

Men’s Singles: Frazier advances, Sock falls in 3

It was a good effort from Jack Sock today, as he fell just short in three games to the #1 seed Federico Staksrud. Staksrud has been the most consistent singles player on tour this year and showed that level down the stretch to notch another victory. On the bottom half of the draw, Dylan Frazier took down Noe Khlif in two games. He’ll take on Eric Roddy in the semifinals who moved through due to an early withdrawal from Quang Duong.

Women’s Singles: Fahey continues strong run

Kate Fahey is the talk of women’s singles lately. She put together another strong performance today taking down Lea Jansen in straights 11-3, 11-5. It setups a match with Lacy Schneemann who got by Chao Yi Wang in three tight games. The winner will most likely face Anna Leigh Waters who has a date with Salome Devidze.

Mixed Doubles: Newman and Parenteau complete performance

Riley Newman and Catherine Parenteau looked a bit shaky in their first two rounds but today they put together a complete performance to defeat the #4 seeds James Ignatowich and Vivian Glozman 11-8, 11-5. The road doesn’t get any easier as they’ll take on Christian Alshon and Anna Bright in the semifinals. Bright/Alshon defeated last week’s winners Tardio/Irvine comfortably 11-3, 11-5. On the top half it will be Johns/Waters vs the Johnson siblings. The Johnson's survived in a thriller over Bar/Pisnik 12-10 in the 3rd.

Women’s Doubles: Waters/Parenteau cruise past Brascia sisters

Anna Leigh Waters and Catherine Parenteau had it all cooking against the Brascia sisters on center court surrendering only three points in their quarterfinal matchup. It setups a showdown with a new partnership in Jorja Johnson and Rachel Rohrabacher, a match that certainly will not lack firepower. The other semifinal will be played between Anna Bright/Tina Pisnik and Hurricane Tyra Black/Parris Todd. Both teams won today in straights.

Men’s Doubles: Thrillers all over

Every single men’s doubles quarterfinal went to three games today. Daescu/Tardio erased a one game deficit to defeat the #1 seeds Johnson/Frazier. Garnett/Loong came back from a big hole in game 3 to beat Staksrud/Wright. Bar/Navratil got it done late against Patriquin/Tellez, winning 11-9 in the 3rd. Newman/Alshon won one of the more entertaining matches of the day, defeating the Johns brothers 12-10 in the 3rd. Men’s doubles is as competitive as it has ever been.
