TYSON MCGUFFIN AND JAMES IGNATOWICH, A NEW PARTNERSHIP, ARE ONE OF THE 8 UNDEFEATED TEAMS REMAINING IN THE MEN’S DOUBLES MAIN DRAW WHICH WILL CONTINUE EARLY TOMORROW MORNING FROM RANCHO MIRAGE, CA.
Gender doubles kicked off this morning with a bang as many new partnerships took the court together for the first time in 2023, and gave us a glimpse of the unprecedented level of bracket depth and player talent that we will see throughout the year. Unfortunately, around 12:30pm PT, rain swept over the desert and forced a postponement of the action. Pro gender doubles bracket play will continue tomorrow morning, with PPA Tour YouTube live stream coverage beginning at a special early start time of 8:00am PT.
In women’s doubles, 9 teams, all top 10 seeds, remain undefeated in the main draw. The most notable result of the draw thus far saw the Selkirk sibling duo of Mary & Maggie Brascia complete a three game upset over the 5 seed in Jorja Johnson & Vivienne David. Below are the matchups that will take place to continue the bracket tomorrow morning:
(1) Lucy Kovalova & Callie Smith vs. (16) Genie Erokhina & Claudia Stepien.
(4) Yana Grechkina & Catherine Parenteau vs. (12) Mary & Maggie Brascia.
(2) Anna Leigh Waters & Anna Bright vs. (10) Michelle Esquivel & Lindsey Newman.
(3) Jessie Irvine & Irina Tereschenko vs. (6) Lacy Shcneemann & Etta Wright.
On the men’s side, favorites pulled through in nearly all first-round matchups, and the final 8 teams were seeded 1-8, and are full of familiar names. Below are your quarterfinal matchups when men’s doubles continues tomorrow morning:
(1) Ben & Collin Johns vs. (8) Patrick Smith & Steve Deakin.
(5) JW Johnson & Dylan Frazier vs. (4) Tyson McGuffin & James Ignatowich.
(3) Callan Dawson & Tyler Loong vs. (6) Jay Devilliers & DJ Young.
(7) Zane Navritil & Thomas Wilson vs. (2) Matt Wright & Riley Newman.
The PPA Hyundai Masters listed matchups for both women’s and men’s doubles will take place early tomorrow morning and be live streamed on the PPA Tour YouTube channel beginning at 8am PT. Following bracket play, Championship Sunday will take place for all pro divisions. Be sure to visit the SelkirkTV Tournament Coverage page on Selkirk.com for your daily tournament recap.
