On a windy day in North Carolina where top seeds were falling left and right, Jack Sock and Catherine Parenteau looked sharp in their round of 16 mixed doubles match. Let’s recap what went down and who was able to survive the tough conditions.
Men’s Singles: Quang Duong to Face Ben Johns
Quang Duong was able to knock off the lefty Pablo Tellez in the round of 16 today to setup a date with Ben Johns in the quarterfinals. Lurking on the bottom half of the draw are singles stalwarts Federico Staksrud and Connor Garnett who could potentially meet in the semifinals.
Women’s Singles: Parenteau Advances
Catherine Parenteau survived a small scare from Emilia Schmidt today but was able to advance to setup a quarterfinal showdown with Genie Bouchard who defeated Lauren Stratman today. On the top half of the draw Anna Leigh Waters will face Brooke Buckner tomorrow and Lea Jansen will take on Lina Padegimaite.
Mixed Doubles: Sock Moves on, Ignatowich Falls
One of the biggest surprises of the day was James Ignatowich and Anna Bright falling in two games to Todd Fought and Maggie Brascia. It creates an intriguing bottom section of the draw that now features Bar/Pisnik, Sock/Parenteau and Patriquin/Jansen. A quarterfinal match to keep an eye out for tomorrow will be David/Wilson vs Staksrud/Rohrabacher.
Men’s Doubles: Tellez/Staksrud into QF
Ignatowich/Wright suffered a defeat to up and comers Augustus Ge and Jaume Martinez Vich opening up the bottom section of the draw for Federico Staksrud and Pablo Tellez. The top half still features several strong teams including the Johns brothers, McGuffin/Bar and Wilson/Alshon.
Women’s Doubles: Parenteau/Waters Cruise, Rohrabacher/Bright Go Down
Anna Bright and Rachel Rohrabacher fell in three tight games to Sarah Ansboury and Audrey Banada coming off a title in Austin just two weeks ago. The 15 seeds took the offense to the 2 seeds early and were able to take the match 12-10 in the 3rd game. Waters and Parenteau will be the favorites moving forward but a potential semifinal matchup with Etta Wright and Meghan Dizon looms in the distance.
