Team Selkirk’s Emilia Schmidt put on a show at the most recent APP Next event in San Antonio, where she earned her second APP Next Triple Crown. The 21-year-old competed against some of the country’s best young and rising talent and came out on top in all three events.
Schmidt, who moved from her home country of Australia to the U.S. in 2024, already has many accolades in the sport. She was the No. 1 draft pick in the inaugural MLP Australia season, and her first APP Next Triple Crown came in June 2025, before she earned her first APP silver medal at the Newport Beach Open in July 2025.
In San Antonio, Schmidt was unstoppable in singles, notably defeating runner-up Brooke Revuelta 21–13. Schmidt also paired up with Jayden Broderick in mixed doubles and Riley Bohnert in women’s doubles. Mixed doubles brought a tough matchup against Lauren Mercado and Drake Palm, where Schmidt and Broderick came away with a three-game win, 11–6, 5–11, 11–7. Similarly, in women’s doubles, Lauren Mercado and her partner Brooke Revuelta gave Schmidt and Bohnert some trouble in game one before Schmidt and Bohnert found their rhythm and closed out the match, 9–11, 11–6, 11–3.
“It means so much to me to have been able to triple crown again this time at the Next Gen in San Antonio,” said Emilia. “I’m so proud of the way I handled the feelings of anxiety and pressure in tight moments. I felt composed and trusted my partners during the tournament, which helped a lot.”
Schmidt is one to watch as she continues carving her path in the sport. Be on the lookout for her, especially at APP events!
