Parenteau, Sock, Kunimoto dominate in day two of the Masters

Day two of the Masters brought the heat, with Team Selkirk's Catherine Parenteau, Jack Sock, and Kiora Kunimoto all advancing.

Parenteau rolls through early rounds

Coming off her gold medal performance in Daytona at the end of 2025, Catherine Parenteau continues her win streak at the Masters. Parenteau’s first singles match of the season came against the crafty Mari Humberg, and she walked away with an 11-7, 11-2 victory. Now, Parenteau lines up for a clash with a tough opponent who has a deceptive No. 12 seed next to her name: Jorja Johnson.

In the debut of two long-term partnerships for the season, Parenteau shined in both. In women’s doubles, she reunited with Rachel Rohrabacher, with whom she shared the court for a few tournaments last season. The No. 2 seeds have already taken down a tough team in Abbigal Hatton and Albie Huang in Palm Springs and will play Christa Gecheva and Samantha Parker for a spot in the quarterfinals.

Parenteau and Gabe Tardio faced their first real test in the round of 32 against MLP Las Vegas Night Owls teammates Pablo Tellez and Brooke Buckner. After taking the first game decisively, Parenteau/Tardio fell in the second, 8-11, before finding their rhythm and outplaying their opponents in the third. With an 11-4 win in the deciding game, Parenteau/Tardio move on to the round of 16, where they’ll face the No. 17 seeds, Allyce Jones and Connor Garnett.

Sock advances in singles, pulls mixed doubles upset

Jack Sock opened his season strong, keeping his gold medal hopes alive across all divisions. In singles, Sock avenged his 2025 Worlds loss to Tom Protzek with an energized, crafty performance, earning an 11–5, 11–8 win in the Round of 32. Sock now faces Mohaned Alhouni with a quarterfinal appearance on the line.

Mixed doubles brought an exciting upset for Sock and his partner, Mari Humberg. The duo took down the No. 11 seeds, Zoey Wang and Tyson McGuffin, 7-11, 11-2, 11-7. Sock and Humberg now face Sock’s MLP Phoenix Flames teammate Jessie Irvine and Jay Devilliers.

Kunimoto dominates in singles

Seventeen-year-old Kiora Kunimoto continues to showcase her singles prowess in Palm Springs. Kunimoto, who began playing pickleball just a year ago, has defeated an impressive lineup of players in her short time on tour. In the Round of 32, Kunimoto took down Hannah Blatt in straight games, 11-5, 11-3, and now moves on to face a tough opponent in Brooke Buckner. Kunimoto and Buckner have played each other on several occasions, with Buckner winning their last two meetings by close margins.
