2026 PPA Masters: Spotlight on Sparta Pros and Shimabukuro

The Masters are set to deliver high-level competition and unmistakable style, with Selkirk pros taking the court dressed head-to-toe in white. From newly signed Sparta pros to seasoned veterans and rising teenage talents, Selkirk will be well represented throughout the draw. Here’s who to watch as the action unfolds.

Selkirk Spartans in the draw

Selkirk’s newest pro team, Sparta, consists of four rising talents who battled their way through the Selkirk Combine in September 2025 and earned pro-level contracts. This Monday, two of the Spartans, Rafa Lenhard and Charlie Treviño, will team up for mixed doubles qualifiers.

Rafa Lenhard finished the 2025 season with his first-ever PPA medal in Daytona. During his Daytona run, Lenhard added world No. 1 Federico Staksrud to the list of top players he has defeated. The 2026 season will kick off with Lenhard going head-to-head against fellow Sparta pro Anouar Braham. The winner of the all-Sparta battle will go on to face either Zane Ford or Gregory Dow in the round of 32.

Look out for Shimabukuro

Tama Shimabukuro is one to watch. The 14-year-old will start his 2026 campaign at the Masters, competing in singles and men’s doubles alongside 16-year-old Andre Mercado.

While Shimabukuro is still searching for a breakthrough win in singles, you can expect an exciting performance. The teen will kick things off against the “Flick Wizard,” JW Johnson.

Despite their young age, Shimabukuro and Mercado are a fearless pair, holding their own against some of the best pros in the draw. The teenage duo has recorded wins over Chris Haworth and Armaan Bhatia and has come close against other top teams, including Eric Oncins and Matt Wright. They will face Greg Dow and Anderson Scarpa in the first round of the Masters, before potentially meeting No. 3 seeds Christian Alshon and Hayden Patriquin.

Parenteau looks to continue her momentum

Catherine Parenteau wrapped up her 2025 season in the best possible way, winning her first singles gold of the year. With the Era paddle in hand, Parenteau overcame a number of tricky opponents, including APP medalist Katerina Stewart and tour veteran Lea Jansen. At the Masters, Parenteau enters as the sixth seed, on the same side of the draw as Jorja Johnson and Kate Fahey.

Sock returns

We last saw Jack Sock at the Lakeland Open in November, where he lost a tightly contested three-set match to Hunter Johnson in the quarterfinals. Now, about a month and a half later, Sock returns recharged for the new season. He will likely face rising lefty talent Will Mackinnon in the round of 64.

In doubles, Sock debuts a new partner, Pablo Tellez. The duo enters the Masters as the No. 12 seed, earning a head start into the round of 32, where they’ll look to build chemistry quickly. Sock and Tellez will likely face DJ Young and Roscoe Bellamy in their opening match.
