Sparta FAQ

Sparta Pro Program

What does a Sparta Pro contract look like?

While complete details are not publicly available, our approach is to ensure each Sparta Pro is funded to compete (i.e. travel and registration) in as many as 17 PPA/APP events per year. In addition, Sparta Pro contracts include medal and ranking cash bonuses, generous gear (including paddle) allowances, social media promotion, paid Selkirk TV appearances, and paid opportunities to attend Asian events. Some Sparta Pros will have opportunities to assist and serve as a mentor during future combine events.

What are the expectations if I become a Sparta Pro?

Sparta Pros are expected to compete in as many APP/PPA events as possible to gain experience, exposure, and confidence in their game. Additionally, Sparta Pros should produce regular digital content, represent Selkirk at events, and potentially participate in select clinics or promotional initiatives.

How many Sparta Pros will be selected in 2026?

In 2026, we anticipate onboarding between 10-20 additional Sparta Pros. There is no minimum or maximum number of combine athletes that will receive contracts following each combine. We will offer contracts based on individual performance, potential, and promotability.

Combines & Logistics

What is a Sparta Combine?

A Sparta Combine is the heart of the Sparta Pro program, which aims to find and develop the next generation of elite pros. The Sparta Combine is a two-day event (with an optional third day for elite coaching) where selected athletes are scored on a battery of physical assessments measuring strength, agility, stamina, and reaction. Athletes will also compete in numerous singles and doubles matches. Athletes will be scored using an internally developed model that considers performance, potential, and promotability. The top-scoring athletes are offered 2-year Sparta Pro contracts and become Sparta Pros.

What are the combine dates for 2026?

We are planning for two back-to-back combines during May 13-15 and 16-18, and another combine during September 11-13.

Where are Sparta Combine events held, and who pays for travel?

For 2026, Sparta Combines will be held at Selkirk’s Coeur D’Alene, Idaho headquarters. Travel costs for attending Sparta Combines are the responsibility of the athlete.

Application Process

Is there a cost to apply for combines?

Yes. The application review process is time-intensive and very thorough. Each application typically takes 1-2 hours to review, research, and score. We charge a $95 application fee to account for this, and to increase our ability to focus on only serious applicants. Application fees are not refundable.

What are the application deadlines for each combine?

For the May 13-15 and 16-19 combines, the application deadline is March 13. The application window for the September 11-13 combine will not open until early May.

When will I be notified I am selected to attend?

For the May 13-15 and 16-19 combines, we will notify selectees by April 13. The application window for the September 11-13 combine will not open until early May.

Can I reapply for future combines if not selected?

Yes. Unselected candidates or those not invited to this event will not be automatically re-considered for future combines and must reapply.

Are youth (under 18) eligible?

Not for 2026. Future events may include junior categories.

Are Sparta Pro contracts available for senior pros?

All Sparta Pros must be 35 or younger and eligible to compete in the pro main draws of APP and PPA tournaments. Please only apply if you meet this criteria.
