Singles day at the Las Vegas PPA delivered on impressive matchups and upsets. Federico Staksrud, Tyson McGuffin, and Dylan Frazier were some of the bigger names in the draw to bow out before the quarterfinals. Jack Sock played sensational pickleball, routing Max Freeman, Roscoe Bellamy, and Noe Khlif on his way to the semifinals. He will be looking for his second bronze and fifth overall PPA medal on Sunday after falling to 17-year-old John Lucian Goins in three.
Decisive win over lefty Max Freeman
Sock came out firing on all cylinders, even unleashing what he dubbed his “Boomstik backhand” in critical moments. His first singles match of the day was against rising lefty talent Max Freeman, with whom he held a 1–2 head-to-head record. After dropping the opening game 6–11, Sock responded decisively, closing out the match with commanding 11–1 and 11–3 scorelines to advance.
Sock topples Roscoe Bellamy
Sock started kicking it into high gear in his matchup against the 6’5” Roscoe Bellamy. Sock’s speed and anticipation are what set him apart from Bellamy in the match, and at one point almost went into the splits hitting a winner. After falling 7-11 in the first game, Sock bounced back 11-8, 11-3 to move onto the next round.
Popcorn-worthy matchup with Noe Khlif
The quarterfinals brought another tough test in the form of the crafty Noe Khlif. The pair last met in 2024, when Khlif entered as the 38th seed in the draw. This time, he came into Vegas seeded 13th and armed with much more experience. Sock came out firing on all cylinders, even unleashing what he dubbed his “Boomstik backhand” in critical moments. The match featured electric exchanges and intense rallies—arguably one of the best showdowns of the day.
