The most advanced paddle ever created? What Project Boomstik actually means for your game

Selkirk LABS just released its newest paddle, Project Boomstik™, and it has the label of “The Most Advanced Paddle Ever Created.”

So, what are the main benefits you’ll notice by playing with this paddle? Let’s dive in.

Hit harder shots (That your opponent won’t see coming)

Project Boomstik helps you hit powerful shots that are difficult for your opponent to react to. At its center is the new BoomCore™ — PureFoam™ surrounded by an EVA Power Ring and fused together to form Selkirk’s most powerful core system ever.

Selkirk’s R&D team found that this paddle increases the ball’s exit velocity by 12% versus a comparable Gen 3 paddle. With more velocity on your shots, it shrinks the time your opponent has to react by 10% — or 25 milliseconds — roughly the blink of an eye.

What does that mean? Less time to react turns reachable shots into forced errors for your opponent.

Your paddle lasts longer (While hitting consistently)

The status quo for power paddles in pickleball is that you can’t have both — maximum power and durability. Gen 3 power paddles hit hard, but then you hear and feel a thud in the middle of an intense rally. That dwindling power and inconsistent performance are due to core crush — where the core deteriorates over time with each paddle hit.

This is most visible in the graph below, where Selkirk engineers tested Project Boomstik’s durability compared to popular Gen 3 paddles on the market by repeatedly firing pickleballs from a cannon at 110 MPH, and measuring the change in the core structure. While other paddles broke down, the Boomstik held strong without core crush.

The difference in durability is clear, with a comparable Gen 3 paddle completely crushed by 500 cumulative hits, while the Boomstik still hasn’t been tested to failure.

A graphic shows how long the Boomstik's core lasted in comparison to the comparable Gen 3 paddle.

What impact does a paddle’s durability have on your game?

  1. It lasts longer, which means less frequent paddle replacements, saving you money.

  2. Your paddle will hit consistently, without unpredictable shots from core crush.

Pre-installed MOI Tuning System adds comfort and stability

Ever wonder whether you should be adding weight to your paddle for optimal performance? Selkirk’s new MOI (Moment of Inertia) Tuning System, first debuting on Project Boomstik, solves that problem for you.

This new technology is an overall design approach to essentially put the weight where it needs to go to help get more balls over the net. It includes a semi-permanent, pre-installed perimeter weighting system that distributes mass toward the outer regions of the paddle.

The benefits?

  1. A larger, more forgiving sweet spot that stabilizes the paddle during off-center hits.

  2. Balanced weight distribution so your paddle won’t feel too top-heavy or too light.

Although the MOI Tuning System’s perimeter weights are semi-permanent, they come pre-installed to help you get the most out of your paddle. It is not recommended to remove them or add additional weight.

Win with spin (over and over again)

Selkirk’s popular InfiniGrit™ Surface, first introduced with LABS Project 007 and included on the new LUXX Control Air with InfiniGrit, is also a feature of Project Boomstik. This textured spin surface enhances the paddle’s spin capabilities, so you can better grip the ball on that slice or put backspin on your serve.

Spin durability increases your paddle’s lifespan. InfiniGrit lasts 3x longer than raw carbon, so you can continue to win with spin.

Two paddle shapes to fit your play style

Everyone has their preference for a paddle shape. Project Boomstik is available in two shapes — elongated and widebody.

  • More reach: The elongated shape is the longest paddle shape. The benefits are to give yourself a better chance at the balls you have to reach for. The longer handle has ample room for two-handed backhands, and this shape delivers greater plow-through on every shot.
  • Larger sweet spot: The widebody shape enhances stability and delivers a more consistent, forgiving sweet spot — especially on off-center hits. It’s ideal for players seeking the largest sweet spot and a consistent feel and performance across the face. The handle is also long enough for two-handed backhands.

Whichever paddle shape you choose, Project Boomstik™ will help your game with maximum power, durability, and longer-lasting spin. It’s backed by a limited lifetime warranty, so you’ll be able to play with confidence in its quality.
