Jack Sock and Catherine Parenteau head into day four of the Masters competing in multiple events and looking to reach Semifinal Saturday.
UPDATE: Jack Sock earned his first semifinal appearance of the season on Saturday after taking down the No. 2 seed, Federico Staksrud. Sock’s backhand proved to be the difference-maker in the match, showcasing sharp angles and consistent shot-making from all areas of the court. After losing the second game 5-11, Sock appeared to refocus and reset, finding his top form to take the third game 11-2. He will move on to play the winner of Connor Garnett and Roscoe Bellamy.
Sock reaches quarters in all three events
Jack Sock’s season-opening campaign is off to a strong start at the Masters. This marks the first time Sock has made deep runs to the quarterfinals in all three events at a single tournament.
Sock needed just under 26 minutes to dismantle Mohaned Alhouni. He dictated the game with confidence and ease, taking no timeouts and making strong point runs to shut Alhouni out of the match. Sock now faces Federico Staksrud in the quarterfinals for their seventh head-to-head battle.
Sock and Mari Humberg have been a dark horse in the mixed draw. The 23 seeds have taken down Hannah Blatt/Chris Haworth, followed by two formidable pairings: No. 11 Zoey Wang/Tyson McGuffin and No. 7 Jessie Irvine/Jay Devilliers. While the last two matches went to three games, Sock and Humberg found their shots and chemistry in the crucial moments. After a 10–12, 11–8, 11–8 win over Irvine/Devilliers, they will have to dig deep as they face the No. 1 seeds, Anna-Leigh Waters and Ben Johns.
Sock and Pablo Tellez have also been putting on a show in men’s doubles. Last night, the duo took down the tough team of Matt Wright and Jaume Martinez-Vich. In an exciting three-game match that lasted well over an hour, Sock and Tellez pulled off a 7-11, 11-6, 11-9 win and move on to play JW Johnson and CJ Klinger.
Parenteau continues runs in doubles
After retiring in singles against Jorja Johnson, Catherine Parenteau seemed to be in solid form for doubles.
No. 5 seeds Parenteau and Gabe Tardio didn’t need long on the court to take down Allyce Jones/Connor Garnett. Parenteau/Tardio played lights out, winning 11-3, 11-2 in 33 minutes. They’ll now play the No. 3 seeds, Anna Bright and Hayden Patriquin, for a spot on Saturday.
In women’s doubles, Parenteau and Rachel Rohrabacher also dominated their match against Christa Gecheva and Samantha Parker. With their 11-3, 11-5 win, they will go up against the No. 5 seeds, Etta Tuionetoa and Lacy Schneemann.
